Dagnall Under Fives – Outdoor Learning

Dagnall Under Fives is committed to providing varied, fun and relevant opportunities for children to learn, explore and grow and we are always looking at how we can build on this. There has been much research done into the benefits of using the natural environment; including the development of immunity, building a love of the outside world, encouraging friendships and offering alternative ways to learn. Our Outdoor Learning is based on the Forest School approach bringing the classroom outside and encouraging children to engage from a young age that can enhance these benefits as well as sharing experiences and learning new skills.

In addition to our own outside space, we have adopted this approach as Outdoor Learning within our provision at Dagnall Under Fives. From feedback from both children and families, we have found the experiences are both enriching and varied with the children actively engaged in what they want to learn and achieve. The area we primarily use is a defined area of the Recreation Ground, only a short, safe walk from the Hall. The area is set up & risk assessed prior to arrival and we continue to work with the strict rules and ratios that are in place with any session. We have planned an exciting range of activities to help utilise this area to our advantage and offer a blend of adult led activities as well as holistic learning opportunities and as always; welcome your involvement through Parent Help.

We do need to ensure that we are properly equipped to take part in sessions so ask that all children come prepared for sessions with

  • Suitable outdoor clothing including waterproof coat & waterproof trousers
  • Boots or wellies (or closed toe shoes in warm weather)
  • Sun cream (applied) and hat in warm weather
  • A change of clothes in a bag
  • Any prescribed medicines that we are already notified of, named and packaged.

Parents will be notified of sessions via the closed Facebook group and the Daily Notice board.

Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask us and we look forward to welcoming your child to the great outdoors!

Welcome to our beautiful outside world!
